You wake up from a great nights sleep, perfectly rested. You pull back the curtains, the sun is shining, the birds are singing…oh, who are you kidding? You’re a mom. You haven’t slept in years. You run solely on coffee and adrenaline as you rush around trying to keep your children healthy, happy, and alive. Being a mom can sometimes feel like the most thankless job on the planet. But just know that you are…well…just read below…

You Are a Super Hero

As a job, Mom is the most underrated position that you can hold. According to a survey, by salary.com, the average salary for a mom should be about $115,000. A typical mom works 97 hours a week. This position often includes teacher, household manager, chef, laundry specialist, janitor, psychologist, and more. Moms can essentially hold 10+ titles just by taking care of the home and the kids, not to mention the title at your 40 hours a week career outside of your home. Well moms, you can add one more title to the list: Super Hero, because without you, nothing would get done!

You Are Not Alone

Even super heroes need a little help from time to time. Super Man had Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, Batman had Robin and Alfred, who is your sidekick? Don’t get overwhelmed! And don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Spouses, friends, and family are some of the best people to pitch in and help when things get tough. And there is no shame in needing help, especially when you are doing the work of 10 or more people. You deserve a break every now and then. Not only is this beneficial to you, but it will be beneficial to your family as well.

You Are Not A Machine

Sometimes as a mom of a special needs child you can get so caught up in making sure he or she has everything they need, that you forget to take some time for yourself. But this is one of the most important things that you can do for your family. If you don’t take time to rest, relax, and replenish you won’t be the best you. So if you are feeling overwhelmed because you do the work of 10 people, ask for help. Get a babysitter or family member for a night and go out. Or try scheduling times, even 10-15 minutes a day just for yourself. Read a book, watch TV, go for a run, take a nap, hide in the closet if you have to! Then when you come back you will be even stronger for your family. Being a mom can sometimes feel like the most thankless job on the planet, but in your heart you know you are loved.
