Rose and Jeff Morris at the 2018 FAST Gala

December is one of the most wonderful times of the year, with all of the holiday celebrations and precious moments spent with family and friends. It’s an extra special time for Abram’s Nation, as our founder Rose Morris attends the FAST Global Summit & Gala in December every year.

The FAST Global Summit & Gala draws more than 1,000 attendees from around the world and is Chicago’s largest celebrity fundraiser. The annual event features a science summit, education workshops, an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) carnival and gala, where 100 percent of the funds raised benefits research for Angelman’s Syndrome. Rose and Abram’s Nation have met so many wonderful families at the FAST Global Summit & Gala over the years, each with their own story that touches our hearts and inspires us to continue our mission to give families with special needs the support they deserve through product innovations and community.

This year, Rose had the extraordinary opportunity to be interviewed for one  of NBC Chicago’s ‘Making a Difference’ segments. The segment will feature Neisha Burton’s story, as a mother of two beautiful children with Angelman Syndrome, Emmanuel (8-years old) and Hannah (5-years old). While Neisha has a background in childcare, she says it still has been a huge learning curve raising two children with AS, as they both are on different ends of the AS spectrum and have very unique needs.Rose Morris being interviewed in Chicago

Like so many of us with children with special needs, Neisha used to worry about safe sleep for Emmanuel and Hannah. It became apparent that she needed a to find a solution to Emmanuel’s sleep issues after he outgrew his crib and started wandering around for hours in the middle of the night. Neisha said she chose the Safety Sleeper because of its competitive pricing, versatility and easy assembly. She no longer has to spend nights sleeping with Emmanuel for fear he will wander around and injure himself.

We are so grateful that Neisha is part of the Abram’s Nation community and are honored that she believes in our mission and the Safety Sleeper. Through Neisha’s story, we hope the NBC Chicago segment raises more awareness of Angelman Syndrome and the rest of the special needs community. As we wrap up this impactful month for Abram’s Nation, we are filled with gratitude to have had the opportunity to attend the FAST Global Summit & Gala’s 10-year anniversary and to share Neisha’s story. Let’s continue to work together to spread awareness of AS and the rest of the special needs community!
